Kumbh Mela 2025: The Kumbh Mela is one of the largest and most significant religious gatherings in the world, held every 12 years in India. This grand festival is a spiritual pilgrimage for millions of Hindus who come together to bathe in the sacred rivers, most commonly the Ganges, Yamuna, and the Sarasvati, to cleanse their sins and attain salvation. It will be held in Prayagraj in Uaatr Pradesh from January 13 to February 26.
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2024 will see modern technology at the forefront of safety, better mobility and communication at what’s been described as one-in-a-lifetime-event. With approximately 45 crore devotees expected to attend the spectacle, the Uttar Pradesh government will use GPS, artificial intelligence and streaming technologies to offer them the best experience of their lives.
AI-Powered Solutions for Crowd Management
To control the crowds at the event, the Uttar Pradesh government will use AI surveillance systems. As many as 2,700 CCTV cameras, including 328 AI-enabled cameras, will monitor activities across the event.
These cameras are designed to
- Detect crowd surges and automatically notify the authorities.
- Assist in identifying missing persons in real-time.
- Improve situational awareness by augmenting human monitoring.
- Besides monitoring, a digital lost-and-found system will also be developed that allows for immediate registration of missing persons, integrating AI technology to ensure more targeted searches. Information about missing persons is also provided through social networks for quick unification with the family.

Digital Navigation and Information Access
The government has also released an original Kumbh Sahayak app designed for easy navigation of the vast event. The app features:
- Virtual assistants and representatives to help explain situations and traditions.
- Accurate demarcation of significant places such as ghats, akharas and other religious sites.
- It will help visitors to locate a facility with ease as 3D images of all camps are uploaded on the official website.
- The app also includes information on various activities and services during the Mela for effective
planning

Enhanced Communication Through Social Media
Social media platforms will prove vital in the improvement of communication, not only between the authorities but also among the attendees. The government intends to make use of these social platforms to:
- Include broadcasting real-time updates concerning events and services.
- Information about lost individuals.
- Stipulation of speedy interaction between the bureaucracy and common citizens.

Live Streaming and Global Accessibility
If someone is unable to attend the event, they can live-stream the Kumbh Mela on their devices. Integration with Google navigation will enable users from all over the world to witness the real-time activities at the Mela, including live broadcasts of major rituals such as the Ganga Aarti Puja.
Security Measures and Infrastructure Development
Technology is upgrading the security infrastructure of Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 on a large scale. The main steps to be initiated will include:
Establishment of 56 police stations across the premises of the Kumbh area.
Installation of 100 AI-based cameras to monitor the activities around non-stop.
Installing scanners in public restrooms to monitor cleanliness in real-time.
