Jesse Eisenberg has recently left fans surprised with selfless decision.
The Social Network actor reveals that he will be donating a kidney to a stranger in mid-December, calling it a “no-brainer” altruistic act.
Jesse, who is currently promoting new movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, is known for routinely donating blood over the years.
Now, he has appeared on the TODAY show on October 30 as he discloses, “I am actually donating my kidney in six weeks. I really am.’
When asked why he decides for kidney donation, Jesse responds, “I got, like, bitten by the blood donation bug. I love it.”
Zombieland actor adds, “I’m doing an altruistic donation in mid-December.”
According to Weill Cornell Medicine, an altruistic donation is “when someone donates an organ to a stranger” as the “recipient is selected by medical compatibility”.
Jesse also advises other people to donate an organ, explaining, “It’s essentially risk-free and so needed.”
“I think people will realise that it’s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination,” notes A Real Pain actor.
Meanwhile, Jesse, who is a father to eight-year-old son Banner, opens up that his donation will allow his family to be considered as a priority in the future if ever they need a living kidney donation, as per National Kidney Foundation’s family voucher program.
“The way it works now is you can put a list of whoever you would like to be the first to be at the top of the list. Soo, it’s risk-free for my family, as well,” points out the 42-year-old actor.
Later, fans take to the comment section on TODAY social media page as one writes, “Wow!! Props to him for real. I’m speechless!”
Another remarks, “Thank you Jesse for your commitment and for using your platform to support living kidney donation.”
“Transplant recipient here and what you are doing is life changing,” adds some other user.
