In the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026, India defeated England by 7 runs to reach World Cup final.
India delivered a stunning batting performance against England, scoring 253 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
At Wankhede Stadium, England won the toss and invited India to bat first. Indian opener Sanju Samson started aggressively.
England’s Will Jacks took the first breakthrough in the second over, catching young batter Abhishek Sharma off the hands of Phil Salt. Sharma had scored 9 runs off 7 balls. In the following over, Jofra Archer created a chance to dismiss Sanju Samson, but captain Harry Brook dropped a simple catch.
Sanju Samson, partnering with Ishan Kishan, added 97 runs for the second wicket, taking India’s score to 117 by the 10th over. Kishan scored 39 before being dismissed by Adil Rashid.
After surviving an easy chance earlier, Sanju Samson dominated England’s bowlers, completing his half-century off just 26 balls.
Will Jacks finally ended Samson’s fiery innings on the first ball of the 14th over. Samson scored 89 runs off 42 balls, hitting 8 fours and 7 towering sixes, marking his second consecutive half-century in this World Cup.
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed by Adil Rashid for 11 runs, after which Shreyas Iyer continued aggressively, scoring 43 off 25 balls with 1 four and 4 sixes before being run out.
Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma also contributed quick runs, scoring 27 off 12 balls and 21 off 7 balls, respectively, while Axar Patel remained unbeaten on 2.
England’s bowling struggled throughout, though Will Jacks and Adil Rashid took two wickets each.
India finished their 20 overs at 253/7, setting a massive target for England.
In reply, England fell short by 7 runs. Bethel scored a century but could guide his team over the line.
