Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on Tuesday for a scheduled follow-up visit related to treatment of his right eye.
Khan was transported from Adiala Jail under tight security. This marked his second hospital visit after an initial check-up in late January, when doctors prescribed three injections for his eye condition.
According to hospital authorities, a medical board conducted a detailed examination prior to the procedure.
A consultant cardiologist also performed echocardiography and an electrocardiogram (ECG), both of which showed normal heart function.
The hospital’s executive director confirmed that informed consent was obtained before administering the second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection for the treatment of central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).
The injection was carried out in an operation theatre under standard medical protocols as a day-care procedure.
Khan remained stable throughout and was discharged after nearly an hour, with follow-up instructions and medical documentation.
He is expected to receive the third injection on March 23.
PTI’s Position
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that the party founder underwent the scheduled eye procedure at PIMS.
He stated that PTI is demanding that future treatment be conducted at Shifa International Hospital and in the presence of Khan’s personal physicians to ensure transparency.
Supreme Court Report
Khan’s health has become a matter of political debate following a report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan by his lawyer and amicus curiae, Barrister Salman Safdar.
The report disclosed that Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition often linked to cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. It further stated that he has reportedly lost around 85% of vision in his right eye.
Imran Khan, 73, has been incarcerated since August 2023 following multiple convictions, which he and his party maintain are politically motivated. Several cases remain under appeal.
