Receiving new job offers can be extremely rewarding, bringing hope for a brighter and better future. However, what happens if the employer someday decides to withdraw a previously extended offer of employment from the candidate? This not only shatters the expectations of the candidate but also leaves the individual in a state of crisis, especially if they resign from their previous company. One such instance has caught the internet’s attention, where a final-year mechanical engineering student saw all the hard work and promises going in vain.
Prasad Chaure, a student at IIT Bombay, had all the reasons to feel secure about his future, only to be turned down brutally. In December last year, Chaure received an offer as a Business Analyst during the campus placement. He not only got an official offer letter from the company that collected his onboarding documents but also signed a declaration barring dual employment.
Little did he know that things wouldn’t go as planned. A few days before his June 2 joining, Chaure received a message about the postponement of his onboarding. Finally, on June 2, he received the shock of his life with the company’s final message. “The offer has been revoked due to a change in requirements for future business,” the company explained, leaving Chaure disheartened.
Noting that he had already turned down other interviews and even paused connecting to people after being convinced of bagging his “dream job,” Chaure continued, “I had turned down other interviews and paused outreach, thinking my journey had found its direction. But now, I’m back at square one, and actively looking for Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Product Analyst, or Supply Chain roles.”
Fellow LinkedIn users instantly took to the comment section and extended their support to Chaure. Others highlighted how such last-moment revocations have become a normal practice. One wrote, “This is becoming a general trend of revoking offers by the company. It has become a very important concern.
This should be handled…by making some rules and regulations, or else the IT field will become a threat,” while another added, “This sudden revoking of offers is disheartening… I came across 4 posts about the offer being revoked, and that too of students from such good colleges. We students work extremely hard to secure one good offer, and then such a thing happens.”
Keeping up an optimistic mindset for the future, Prasad Chaura concluded his post with a request to provide him with relevant references for job openings.
