ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking the transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for specialised eye treatment.
The two-member bench comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Sumroo instead directed authorities to constitute a new medical board to examine the incarcerated PTI founder.
The court also instructed that Imran Khan’s family be informed according to jail rules. His lawyers be allowed to meet him.
Medical board member Dr Nadeem Qureshi remain in contact with the family regarding his treatment.
The plea was filed on March 2 by senior lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa under Section 561-A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The petition requested that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for specialised eye treatment, alleging that prison authorities were conducting medical examinations without transparency.
The application claimed that the former prime minister, currently held at Adiala Jail, had suffered significant vision problems.
According to the petition, he reportedly had only about 15% vision remaining in his right eye due to Central Retinal Vein Occlusion.
Earlier this month, doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences examined Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
Hospital officials said his vision had improved significantly during follow-up treatment, although his family and party members have continued to express concern about his health.
During the hearing, intense arguments were exchanged between the defence lawyers, the government’s legal team, and members of Imran Khan’s family.
The court ultimately rejected the request for hospital transfer but ordered a fresh medical evaluation to assess his condition.
