Government seeks political support for Operation Azm-e-Istehkam | The Express Tribune

KARACHI:

The federal government plans to consult political leaders to secure support for the recently announced Operation Azm-e-Istihkam, aimed at eliminating terrorism and extremism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is leading efforts to ensure the operation garners backing from all political factions.

The government is considering various options, including a joint political conference or an in-camera parliamentary session, to build national consensus.

Sources indicate that the operation has raised concerns among various parties such as PTI, JUI-F, and ANP.

In response, the government is forming a political coordination committee comprising key ministers and coalition leaders to engage with all parliamentary and political leaders.

The committee’s task is to explain the objectives and necessity of Operation Azm-e-Istihkam.

“We are committed to achieving national consensus on this operation,” said a government source.

The prime minister is also consulting with military leadership to finalise the strategy.

During the proposed sessions, government and security officials will brief political leaders on the operation’s details and seek their support.

The government aims to ensure no obstacles hinder Operation Azm-e-Istihkam, as it is crucial for establishing peace, improving security, and enhancing the economic situation in Pakistan.
