Goonhilly Earth Station tracks Artemis II

As the crew of NASA’s Artemis II mission make their 250,000-mile return journey to Earth, there are hopes it is inspiring a whole new generation.

At Goonhilly Earth Station in Cornwall, the team’s involvement is helping to shine a light on the county’s space sector.

Goonhilly is helping to track the Orion spacecraft in the first crewed mission to the Moon in 50 years after it launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 23:35 BST on Wednesday.

Matthew Cosby, chief technology officer at Goonhilly Earth Station, said Goonhilly was undergoing a qualification test for Nasa to collect data and “hopefully we’ll demonstrate that we are one of the best in the world”.
