Google is marking the Year of the Snake with a festive Doodle to celebrate Lunar New Year, a tradition observed across several Asian countries. Released on Wednesday, the Doodle features a snake adorned with a mandarin orange on its head, a fruit commonly consumed during the celebrations. The background showcases a red envelope, symbolizing the money gifts exchanged during the holiday to bring good fortune.

Lunar New Year, celebrated on the first new moon of the lunar calendar, is a centuries-old tradition observed in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and other Asian nations. The Year of the Snake, part of the Chinese Zodiac’s 12-year cycle, is highlighted by Google as a time for growth, creativity, and transformation.

In addition to the global celebration, Google has also released a special Doodle for South Korea, where traditions include eating tteokguk (rice cake soup), playing festive games like yunnori, and exchanging gifts as part of the celebrations.
