Girls’ school blown up in Kurram, KP | The Express Tribune

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA:

Unidentified militants in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province blew up a girls’ school on Saturday in the tribal district of Kurram, the express news reported.

According to the local authorities, the militants fled the scene after throwing the grenade at the Aisha Siddiqa Girls’ School, located within the jurisdiction of Marian Police Station in Central Kurram District. The powerful explosion caused significant damage to the school building.

Initial reports reveal that there were no casualties.

However, the authorities are currently investigating the incident to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack.

Prior to this attack, two more attacks were launched on girls’ schools in North Wazrisitan  and South Waziristan districts of KP.

A senior member of the Wana Welfare Association in Peshawar alleged that the demands were coming from local Taliban, demanding a specific portion of funding from the school.

“Those who refuse to pay are targeted, with their homes damaged or themselves killed,” he told AFP.

Despite prior alerts to law enforcement agencies, no measures were taken to safeguard the school.
