In a world where job security in the private sector is no longer guaranteed, many Gen Z workers are rethinking traditional career paths and prioritising stability and fair pay over titles alone.

Can Employers and Gen Z Meet In The Middle On Job Hopping?

Gen Z often switches jobs to gain exposure to different teams and work environments while building new skills. It helps them stay adaptable and explore what truly fits their ambitions. However, employers do not always see it the same way. For many organisations, longer tenures still signal reliability and loyalty. Hiring is also a long and expensive process, so companies may hesitate to invest in employees who might leave within a year, which can affect team stability.

A middle ground can emerge when professionals learn to balance mobility with stability and recognise when it is time to stay and grow within a role.

Lily padding may sound like just another workplace trend, but for many young workers, it is a way to understand themselves better and move towards roles that align with their goals, and there’s nothing wrong with it.
