Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited flood-affected areas in the Sialkot sector, including Shakargarh, Narowal, and Kartarpur, to review the ongoing relief operations and preparations for the next spell of monsoon rains, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Friday.
According to the army’s media wing, upon arrival, the army chief was received by Corps Commander Gujranwala and given a comprehensive briefing on the flood situation and rescue efforts carried out by the army and civil administration.
COAS praised the coordinated response of both civil and military teams, noting their untiring efforts in rescuing people and providing relief in difficult circumstances.
He also commended the high morale and operational readiness of the troops deployed in the affected regions.
The COAS held direct interaction with the Sikh community, who welcomed him warmly and expressed gratitude for the relief efforts.
The Army chief assured them that all religious sites damaged during the floods, including the Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, will be fully restored to their original condition on priority.
“It is the responsibility of the state and its institutions to protect the rights and places of worship of all minorities. Pakistan will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling this duty,” he said.
General Munir also conducted an aerial survey of Durbar Sahib Kartarpur, and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing restoration and protection measures
In a meeting with civil administration officials, he appreciated the proactive response that helped reduce casualties and protect infrastructure.
