Indian airlines faced fresh disruptions today after a global Microsoft Windows service outage affected check-in and boarding systems across multiple airports, leading to delays and cancellations. Flights of IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India Express and Akasa Air were among those reportedly impacted.

Flight Disruptions: What Happened Today

A global outage linked to Microsoft Windows systems disrupted airport check-in operations today morning, forcing airlines to switch to manual processes. Multiple airports issued alerts to passengers and delays were reported across several flights. At Varanasi airport, passengers were informed that Microsoft Windows was experiencing major service outages globally, which had affected IT services and airport check-in systems, news agency PTI reported. In response, airlines initiated manual check-in and boarding procedures to keep operations running, resulting in longer queues, slower processing and congestion at terminals, as per the report.

Which Flights And Airports Are Affected?

Four Indian airlines were affected by today’s outage, as per PTI. IndiGo saw 42 cancellations in Bengaluru and reported additional delays across its network. SpiceJet faced disruptions in its check-in systems, resulting in delayed departures. Air India Express experienced issues linked to the Microsoft outage, while Akasa Air also switched to manual check-in, slowing down passenger processing.

Hyderabad airport reported fresh operational challenges while Delhi airport warned travellers about domestic airlines facing schedule issues. Varanasi airport issued alerts referring to the global Microsoft outage and various other airports saw cascading delays as airlines adopted manual boarding processes.

What Happened Yesterday?

On Tuesday, a separate outage disrupted check-in systems at multiple Indian airports after a third-party system failure involving the Amadeus software, which is widely used for airline reservations, inventory management and departure control. The disruption caused delays across several carriers before being resolved.

Air India later confirmed its systems had been fully restored and flights were back on schedule. IndiGo also faced delays due to the outage.
