LAHORE. Energy sector experts have called for the rapid expansion of solar power to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and alleviate the economic hardships caused by rising electricity tariffs. They spoke at the Solar Power Conclave and Technology Excellence Awards 2024 on Friday, highlighting solar energy’s potential to enhance the country’s energy security.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi highlighted public concerns over skyrocketing electricity bills and urged the government to prioritise renewable energy solutions.
“People are rightly distressed over inflated electricity bills. The government must be accountable for this grave injustice,” he said. He also stressed the need for responsible use of natural resources, particularly solar and wind energy, to provide affordable electricity, especially to low-income households.
Faizan Ali, a member of the Prime Minister’s Solarisation Committee, shared the committee’s plan to introduce 10 gigawatts of solar energy into the national grid over the next decade.
