A mild earthquake struck the federal capital Islamabad and several districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Thursday afternoon, prompting fear and panic among residents.

The tremors were felt in Peshawar, Batkhela, Takht Bhai, Lower Dir, Buner, and Rustam and their surrounding areas.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale. It struck at 1:28pm local time with a depth of 198 kilometres.

The epicentre was located in the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, within the Hindu Kush mountain range.
