A starving sambar deer crossed the India-Pakistan border and wandered into a residential area near Narang Mandi in Lahore, where locals captured it and alerted Punjab Wildlife officials.
The deer entered the premises of the Agricultural Development Bank before it was safely rescued by wildlife authorities. Assistant Director Wildlife Junaid Alam confirmed that a team was dispatched promptly to recover the animal.
In a separate incident, a nilgai antelope crossed the border near Kasur’s Ganda Singh Wala area and was rescued after being severely injured by wild dogs.
The animal received medical treatment before being transferred to the Changa Manga wildlife sanctuary.
Meanwhile, Punjab Wildlife Department seized 10 crates of smuggled live quails during a routine bus search in Taunsa Sharif. Legal action has been initiated against the offenders.
In another operation, a falcon poacher in Muzaffargarh was caught red-handed. Wildlife officials confiscated his trapping gear, bait birds, and the captured raptor. The poacher was fined Rs. 10,000, and the birds were confiscated.
Additionally, in Sargodha, five illegal hunters were apprehended while targeting migratory ducks along the Chenab River. The department fined them Rs. 100,000 as compensation and resolved the cases.
