The prices of chicken meat have once again skyrocketed in Lahore and other cities of Punjab, leaving citizens frustrated and distressed.
After a brief decline, the rates have surged by Rs46 per kilogram, settling at Rs423 per kg on May 27.
Just a day earlier, the price of chicken was fixed at Rs377 per kg in Lahore and other cities of the province. This sudden increase has put the staple food item out of reach for many, especially those already struggling to make ends meet due to rising utility bills and other basic commodities.
Citizens are expressing their outrage and disappointment, demanding that the government takes immediate action against the “mafia” controlling the chicken market.
The official rate of Rs423 per kg has been fixed for 1kg of chicken meat, but many fear that this will only continue to rise, further exacerbating the situation. The government is under pressure to intervene and regulate the market to provide relief to the common man.
