Boston College fires men’s basketball coach Earl Grant

Boston College has fired men’s basketball coach Earl Grant, ending his five-year run at the school.

Grant has three seasons remaining on his contract, which had been extended through the 2028-29 campaign.

Boston College announced the firing on Sunday, saying they are “grateful” for Grant’s contributions to the team but that the school has “greater expectations” for the basketball program.

Boston College is the second ACC team to fire its coach Sunday after Georgia Tech dismissed Damon Stoudamire.

The Eagles went 11-20 this season and posted a 4-14 record in ACC play, finishing ahead of only the last-place Yellow Jackets (11-20, 2-16) in the conference standings.

“Our goal remains to compete at the highest level of college basketball and provide a world-class experience for our student-athletes,” athletic director Blake James said in a statement. “We will begin a national search immediately for a new head coach who shares our vision of excellence, both on the court and in the classroom.”

Grant went 72-92 in his five years at Boston College, posting a winning record in only one season during that stretch.
