Babar dethroned from top spot in ODI rankings after more than two years – SUCH TV

Indian opening batter Shubman Gill has replaced Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam, ending his more than two-year reign at the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Azam, who has scored 282 runs from eight knocks at the World Cup, had retained the top spot for more than two years.

Gill has impressed during India’s campaign in the mega event and has now also become just the fourth player from his country behind Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to clinch the top spot in batters’ ranking.

The right-hander notched up scores of 92 against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa over the last week, and has accumulated a total of 219 runs from six innings at the tournament.

Shreyas Iyer also rises 17 places to 18th overall on the list for ODI batters, with Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman (up three spots to 11th) and Afghanistan counterpart Ibrahim Zadran (up six spots to 12th) have also improved their rankings.

Meanwhile, in the bowlers rankings, India’s Mohammad Siraj has regained his top spot on the back of his 10 wickets at the World Cup.

Last week’s top ODI bowler, Shaheen Afridi, drops four places to equal fifth alongside Australia’s Josh Hazlewood.

India’s Kuldeep Yadav (up three places to fourth), Jasprit Bumrah (up three spots to eighth) and Mohammed Shami (up seven places to 10th) are all part of the top 10 as well.

The highest wicket-taker at the World Cup, Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka, jumps 31 places to 45th on the list for ODI bowlers.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is still the No.1 ranked all-rounder despite an early exit at the World Cup due to injury, with Australia veteran Glenn Maxwell improving two spots to sixth after his match-winning double ton against Afghanistan in Mumbai on Tuesday.
