Alex Warren in shock after Best New Artist win at VMAs

Alex Warren may have attended the 2025 MTV VMAs just to have a good time but he ended up walking away with one of the night’s biggest honours.

Moments after arriving at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Sunday, September 7, with wife Kouvr Annon by his side, the Ordinary hitmaker was stunned to learn he had won Best New Artist, a category he assumed was already in the bag for fellow nominee Sombr.

“I truly did not … thank you so much. What the?” he said in disbelief after pre-show host Nessa handed him the award live on the red carpet.

“I was totally ready for [fellow best new artist nominee] Sombr to be here,” the newly minted VMA winner admitted, after edging out strong contenders that included The Marías, Ella Langley, Gigi Perez, and Lola Young.

The 24-year-old, clearly overwhelmed, made one of the night’s most hilarious confessions, saying, “I don’t even know what to say to you right now. I pooped twice today; I might go for a third.”

“I’m about to cry. I don’t know; this is amazing. Thank you so much!” he added before joining the ranks of VMA royalty.

Alex shared the stage with Lady Gaga and Mariah Carey as one of the night’s featured performers. Moreover, his thrilling performance of Eternity and Ordinary lit up the arena, proving he is worthy of the win.

Following the July 18 release of his 21-track album You’ll Be Alright Kid, the Hype House alum landed three nominations at this year’s VMAs. He’s also a contender for the best pop and song of the year categories.

Alex, nabbing the Best New Artist title at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards marked his first ever VMA win.
