Aubrey Plaza is a mother for the first time. 

The 42-year-old actress was photographed holding her newborn in New York City on Sunday, August 9, after attending what was reportedly partner Christopher Abbott’s final Broadway performance in Death of a Salesman. 

According to TMZ, Plaza gave birth to a baby girl during the last week of July, though she and Abbott have not yet publicly confirmed the birth or shared their daughter’s name.

The couple’s pregnancy was first confirmed by Plaza’s representative to PEOPLE in April, with a source describing the news at the time as “a beautiful surprise after an emotional year.” 

Plaza and Abbott, 40, first worked together professionally on the 2020 film Black Bear and the 2023 off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. 

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast in April, Plaza offered a lighthearted update on the pregnancy, joking, “Well, there’s a baby inside of me… Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today, and my dog also went to the doctor’s.” 

Abbott later spoke about the pregnancy on Today in May, calling it “very exciting.”

The birth comes after an especially difficult stretch in Plaza’s personal life. 

Her estranged husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, died by suicide in January 2025 at age 47, following what had reportedly been a months-long separation. 

Plaza and Baena were together for roughly a decade before marrying in 2021.
