Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered stricter checks of travel documents to curb illegal migration and prevent passengers with incomplete documents from travelling.
The interior minister made the directives during a surprise visit to Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, where he reviewed the immigration process and inspected counters.
Mohsin Naqvi also met with immigration staff and questioned them about the processing time. He spoke to passengers about their experience, with several complaining about delays in the immigration process. A passenger also complained that an agent had taken money from him, claiming it was required to process his travel documents. Naqvi took immediate notice of the complaint, handed the case over to the FIA director and directed authorities to arrest the agent.
Naqvi directed authorities to keep all immigration counters open to speed up the process and prevent delays.
He also ordered authorities to ensure that passengers with incomplete travel documents are not allowed to travel, while stressing that those carrying complete and valid documents should not be stopped unnecessarily.
He directed authorities to use modern technology to facilitate the immigration process and tighten the crackdown on passengers carrying fake documents.
