KARACHI: Rain accompanied by thunder is expected in Karachi on Saturday (today) afternoon or evening, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said, as cloudy weather is likely to persist in the city during the next 24 hours.

According to the weather department, the maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to remain up to 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29.5°C.

Humidity in the air was recorded at 82%, keeping conditions humid across the port city.

Sea breezes were blowing at a speed of 8 kilometres per hour, the department said.

The forecast comes as a depression over eastern Madhya Pradesh is expected to move westward during the next 24 to 36 hours, with monsoon currents continuing to penetrate eastern and central parts of Pakistan.

According to the weekly weather outlook issued on July 31, rain-wind and thundershowers are expected in Sindh on August 1 (today), while isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely during the period.

However, the Karachi-specific forecast indicates rain with thunder in the afternoon or evening, along with cloudy skies during the next 24 hours.

The broader monsoon system has been influencing weather conditions in different parts of the country, bringing rain-wind and thundershowers to several regions.
