Celebrities took to social media to share their reactions to Sunday night’s FIFA World Cup final, where Spain lifted the trophy. While some celebrated the victory, others expressed disappointment over Argentina’s defeat.

Actors and singers including Adnan Siddiqui, Talha Chahour, Danish Taimoor, Arslan Naseer, Zara Noor Abbas, and Asim Azhar shared messages congratulating Spain, while Sajal Aly and Samar Jafri mourned the defeat of their football hero, Lionel Messi.

Adnan Siddiqui posted a message on Instagram congratulating Spain on their victory while also referencing Egypt in his post. “Well played, Spain. No offense to Messi and Argentina fans, but tonight felt like comparing Wi-Fi to dial-up,” the actor wrote. He added, “If Argentina had won, Egypt would’ve unfollowed football for a week!”

Actor Talha Chahour also took to his Instagram story, posting side-by-side photos of Messi and Argentina’s Lamine Yamal.

Referring to Messi, Chahour wrote, “FIFA’s favourite child didn’t get the favour today. That was fun,” alongside a laughing emoji. Under Yamal’s picture, the actor wrote, “I’m waiting to see what the moment will be like when he raises the Palestinian flag again,” expressing support for the footballer’s pro-Palestine stance.

Actors Danish Taimoor and Arslan Naseer also congratulated the World Cup champions, with Naseer joking, “Did the Argentina team come to play or watch?”

Meanwhile, Zara Noor Abbas posted a selfie of herself with Yamal on her television screen, while singer Asim Azhar wrote, “Messi deserved it, Argentina did not.”

Azhar later shared a photo from Barcelona, writing that although England was his favourite team in the competition, he had recently had the chance to visit the Spanish city and was surprised by the large Pakistani community there, congratulating them on Spain’s victory.

On the other hand, Messi fans were left disappointed and heartbroken by the Argentinian defeat.

Singer Samar Jafri expressed his support for Messi before the final, writing, “One last time! Let’s go, my king.”

Following Argentina’s defeat, however, the singer congratulated Spain but also shared a photo of Messi lifting a previous trophy, calling him “the greatest ever to step onto this field.”
