Kathy Griffin has confirmed that she’s not dating a 22-year-old man.
The 65-year-old comedian left fans stunned on Friday when she shared a photo of herself hand-in-hand with an unidentified younger man on Instagram.
“He’s 22. Have at it, internet,” she simply captioned the post.
As social media uproar erupted over this romance involving a significant age gap, Kathy returned to the platform and described the post as a “sociological experiment on social media.”
The actress clarified that she was never dating a 22-year-old man, revealing that the man in the photo she shared was her bodyguard.
“No, I’m not dating this 22-year-old,” she penned. “He was simply helping me with security during my trip to NYC.”
“But… what if I were? The reactions were fascinating,” Kathy added.
Defending the age-gap relationships, the Pulp Fiction star highlighted Hollywood’s double standards.
“Older men have been dating younger women since the beginning of time,” she wrote. “Just ask Luke Wilson, 54, who just had a beautiful baby with his 24-year-old girlfriend or Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Jay-Z and Beyonce… some of the most long-lasting beautiful relationships in my beloved (though ageist and sexist) industry,’ she added.
Kathy concluded by telling her fans to “relax… just a little harmless fun.”
