Aquatech Expands Lithium and Water Recovery Capabilities with FTS H2O Acquisition

Water treatment company Aquatech announced it has acquired FTS H2O, a move aimed at expanding technologies tied to lithium processing, zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems and industrial brine management as demand grows for more sustainable water and mineral recovery solutions.

According to Aquatech, the acquisition will strengthen the company’s capabilities in energy-efficient evaporation and crystallization technologies used in industries including mining, energy, chemicals and advanced manufacturing. The company said the deal is intended to support growing global demand for lithium production and water reuse technologies tied to the energy transition.

FTS H2O specializes in thermal process technologies designed to reduce energy consumption in water treatment and mineral recovery applications. Aquatech officials said combining the companies’ technologies will help improve the efficiency of lithium extraction, industrial wastewater treatment and brine concentration processes while reducing environmental impacts associated with water-intensive operations.

The acquisition comes as industries face increasing pressure to reduce freshwater consumption, improve wastewater recovery and manage concentrated brine streams generated through industrial operations. Zero liquid discharge systems are increasingly being adopted in sectors such as mining, power generation and semiconductor manufacturing as companies seek to reduce wastewater disposal and comply with tightening environmental regulations.

Lithium processing has also become a major focus area for water technology providers due to growing demand for batteries used in electric vehicles, energy storage systems and electronics. Industry experts have noted that lithium extraction and refining operations can require significant amounts of water, particularly in arid regions where many lithium reserves are located.

Aquatech said the expanded technology portfolio will support more sustainable approaches to mineral extraction and industrial water management while improving operational efficiency for customers. Company officials also noted that advanced evaporation and brine-concentration technologies may help reduce energy use and lower operational costs in high-demand industrial environments.

Environmental experts continue to emphasize the importance of water reuse, brine management and resource recovery technologies as industries balance growing production demands with environmental sustainability goals. Technologies designed to recover water and valuable minerals from industrial waste streams are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting circular economy initiatives and reducing environmental impacts tied to industrial growth.

Aquatech said FTS H2O’s workforce and technical expertise will be integrated into its broader water treatment and resource recovery operations following the acquisition. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
