Olivia Rodrigo opens up about first love impact on new album

Olivia Rodrigo reflects on first love that inspired new album

Olivia Rodrigo revealed that the inspiration behind her new album was her first romantic love.

The Deja Vu singer, who is all set to release new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, in June, shared in a recent chat on On Air with Ryan Seacrest that she began writing the new album when she was living her first love.

“I started writing this album at a time in my life where I was experiencing real romantic love for the first time,” Olivia told Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday.

Olivia, who reportedly parted ways from actor Louis Partridge in December 2025 after dating for over two years, continued, “I realised that the thing that I loved so much about them is not that they were really happy, but they had sort of an element of sadness or fear or melancholy or longing.

“That’s what kind of made them tug at your heartstrings so much, and that’s what moved you so much.”

The host then inquired if the Vampire singer wrote songs while she was going through her healing era, Olivia replied, “There’s a lot going on.

The Happier hitmaker explained, “It’s hard to encapsulate it in one word or one specific feeling. It’s very all over the place in a way that I like. There’s just so much to unpack in it.”

She then added, “I think it was about discovery for me.

“Discovering so many things about myself and also being in a real relationship. I think a good relationship holds a mirror to you and shows you parts of yourself that you never would have been able to see before. There’s a lot of looking inward.”

This came after Olivia was spotted on a romantic dinner with 24-year-old Geese frontman Cameron Winter.
