Olight Integrates Sustainable Design into Portable Lighting Series

New hardware releases prioritize user-replaceable components and plastic-free packaging to reduce electronic waste and extend product lifecycles.

A new shift toward product longevity and waste reduction is hitting the portable lighting industry as Olight introduces its latest hardware series. The launch, timed with global environmental awareness initiatives, focuses on design choices intended to curb the growing issue of electronic waste.

The new Baton Series features a user-replaceable battery system. Unlike many modern portable electronics with sealed internal power sources, this design allows users to install a fresh cell once the original battery’s capacity declines. To further extend the device’s lifespan, the series includes a rotating hidden USB-C port, a design choice intended to protect the charging interface from debris and physical impact.

In addition to repairability, material strength has been prioritized to prevent premature disposal. The Baton Ultra and ArkPro Ultra models utilize a proprietary unibody construction known as O-Aluminum. The material is engineered to be nearly twice as strong as standard 6061 aluminum, which is the current industry benchmark for durability.

The ArkPro Ultra Onyx Black further addresses waste through multi-functionality. By integrating four distinct light sources—including UV, green laser and floodlighting—into a single chassis, the device is intended to replace multiple single-purpose tools. This consolidation reduces the total volume of raw materials required for manufacturing and eventually entering the waste stream.

Battery efficiency also remains a focal point for environmental impact. The built-in 2,000 mAh battery in the ArkPro series is rated to retain more than 80% capacity after 300 cycles. According to technical specifications, a single rechargeable unit of this capacity can offset the use of hundreds of disposable alkaline batteries over its functional life.

The transition toward sustainability extends to the point of sale. Since late 2025, the company has transitioned to plastic-free, paper-based packaging. All paper materials are sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sustainable forests, ensuring that the packaging is biodegradable and responsibly harvested.
