ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan’s junior girls’ tennis team has advanced to the Top-8 of the Junior Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Qualifying event, currently underway in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Placed in Group A alongside Singapore and Macau, Pakistan lost their opening tie against Singapore but bounced back strongly to defeat Macau 2-1 and seal a spot in the quarterfinal stage.

In the first singles match, Hajra Sohail went down to Emma Ieong 0-6, 3-6. However, Zunaisha Noor leveled the tie with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 win over Hong Tai Woo in the second singles.

The decisive doubles encounter proved to be a thriller, with Pakistan trailing 4-5 in the opening set before staging a comeback. Zunaisha Noor and Hajra Sohail held their nerve to win 7-6(2), 6-3 and secure qualification.

The Pakistan team, which arrived in Colombo on March 14, includes Sara Mansoor (Captain), Romaisa Malik, Hajra Sohail, and Zunaisha Noor.

The President, Secretary General, and management of the Pakistan Tennis Federation have congratulated the team on reaching the Top-8.
