Pakistan Urges Diplomacy and Early Ceasefire on Fourth Anniversary of Russia-Ukraine War – SUCH TV

Marking the fourth anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine War, Pakistan has called for full use of ongoing diplomatic efforts and constructive engagement to achieve an early ceasefire and a negotiated settlement.

Addressing a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said Islamabad has supported dialogue and diplomacy since the outset of the conflict.

“There is no military solution to this conflict — a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through sustained, structured, and meaningful dialogue,” he told the 15-member Council.

Call for Ceasefire and Negotiations

The Security Council meeting followed an Emergency Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly, held amid intensified attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.

Despite diplomatic initiatives and prior resolutions, 2025 has remained a particularly deadly year for civilians.

Ambassador Ahmad stressed that any negotiated settlement must uphold the principles of the UN Charter, ensure the legitimate security interests of all sides, and promote lasting regional stability.

He also urged parties to avoid assigning blame and instead focus on practical steps toward peace.

Highlighting the humanitarian toll, he noted the severe impact on civilians and critical infrastructure, saying the ongoing hostilities undermine international humanitarian law and shrink space for meaningful dialogue.

“The imperative to end the agony of millions is not just a political objective, it is a profound moral responsibility,” he said, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for initiatives aimed at bridging differences.

Broader Global Impact

Speaking at the General Assembly, Pakistani delegate Mohammad Kamran Taj underscored that the war’s consequences extend far beyond Ukraine, affecting global economic stability, supply chains, food security, and energy markets — particularly harming developing nations.

He welcomed renewed diplomatic efforts, including recent prisoner exchanges, and commended the United States for facilitating negotiations.

Pakistan encouraged both parties to engage sincerely, prioritize saving lives, and work toward de-escalation and a comprehensive peace settlement aligned with the UN Charter.
