‘Ours is both an arranged marriage and a love marriage. My wife fell in love, and then it became arranged’, says groom
A video of a 60-year-old hakim marrying a young woman has been circulating on social media since yesterday. Responding to the vast reactions, the man said that they fell in love first and then got married.
Since the video circulated on social media, a storm of users have been pitching in their two cents, which prompted a reporter to visit the newlywed couple for an interview.
During the interview, the 60-year-old man said, “Ours is both an arranged marriage and a love marriage. My wife fell in love, and then it became arranged — meaning we liked each other first and then performed the nikah (marriage)”.

Standing beside him, his wife agreed, confirming that this is exactly how it happened.
The groom said, “The heart should be young — what does age matter? She was divorced, and this is Allah’s command and the Prophet’s (PBUH) Sunnah. I acted upon it, so what wrong have I done?”
He added, “I did not commit adultery, so why are people making negative comments? In fact, those who make negative remarks are the ones who have had girlfriends and unlawful relationships but do not want to marry — instead, they deceive women”.
His wife proceeded to add to the sentiment, agreeing that age should not be a factor when there is sincere love, and one should not delay in getting married when they have someone they truly care for.
The reactions on social media seem to vary from concerns over the age gap between the married couple to support for the marriage and condemnation of extramarital relationships.
