Phulera Dooj, also known as Phool Dooj, is a Hindu festival full of colours and flowers. It is mainly celebrated in the Braj region, especially in Mathura and Vrindavan.
The day is dedicated to Lord Krishna and marks the start of Holi celebrations but with flowers instead of colours. The festival comes between Vasant Panchami and Holi. This day is considered a day of joy, happiness and devotion.
Phulera Dooj 2026: Date and Time
According to the Hindu calendar, Phulera Dooj falls on the Dwitiya (second day) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Phalgun. This year, it will be celebrated on February 19.
The Dwitiya Tithi begins on February 18 at 4:57 pm and ends at 3:58 pm on February 19.

The day is dedicated to Lord Krishna which marks the beginning of Holi but unlike the main festival where colours are used, Phulera Dooj is celebrated with flowers. It is considered one of the luckiest days in the Hindu calendar.
Flowers are offered to deities as a symbol of wealth, growth and joy. People also pray for peace, happiness, and prosperity in their homes. In some regions, couples perform rituals together, tying sacred threads or exchanging flowers, which is believed to strengthen love and marital bonds.
In North India, many couples get married on Phulera Dooj because it is believed to bring happiness, prosperity, and blessings from Lord Krishna. Entrepreneurs and businesspeople often start new ventures or investments on this day, as it is considered a very favourable day for success.
Phulera Dooj 2026: Rituals
- Devotees take bath early in the morning.
- Clean the house and decorate with flowers and rangolis.
- Place an idol of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha in the center.
- Wash the idols with rose water, flowers and ubtan and dress them in new clothes.
- Light a diya, decorate the idols with a diya and recite Krishna mantras.
- Offer bhog such as panjeeri, khoya barfi, rice or makhana kheer, panchamrit and tulsi patra.
- After Krishna aarti, distribute the prasad to family members.
Phulera Dooj 2026: Celebrations
Devotees visit temples and worship Lord Krishna by showering him with fresh flowers. Temples in Mathura and Vrindavan see large crowds of devotees singing bhajans and performing puja and are decorated with flowers, garlands and rangolis.
Many places host folk songs, dances, and local cultural programs. Families and friends come together, exchange greetings, and celebrate the day with devotion and happiness. In North India, Phulera Dooj is seen as highly auspicious, so couples often get married, and people begin new businesses or important projects.
In Braj, especially in Mathura and Vrindavan, some communities organize processions of flowers.
