Shloka Akash Ambani has always been the most demure of the Ambani family women, and her style is always polished and understated. But this time around, she turns up the style quotient and ups the ante with a look that is a thoughtful mix of global luxury and Indian craftsmanship.
In photos shared by her stylist Diya Mehta Jatia, Shloka wears a floor-length ivory gown that is sleek and structured. The look was unique because it is a collaboration between the Italian giant Prada and Swadesh (an initiative of Mrs. Nita Ambani, which aims not only to preserve and promote India’s artisanal skills but to present this rare, truly luxury artisanal brand from India to a global audience). The sleeveless silhouette features a scoop neckline and delicate silver and pastel embellishments scattered across the fabric. A cut-out at the waist sharpens the shape and gives the look a modern finish.
The standout detail, however, sits at the back. In a few of the pictures you can see a flowing silk train and voluminous beige skirt crafted by artisans that adds softness, movement and depth. The handcrafted silk brings a distinctly Indian element to an otherwise European-style couture silhouette.
And if Ambani women are involved, the jewellery has to be incredible. Shloka paired her Indo-Italian look with a gorgeous diamond necklace with multiple solitaires, matching earrings, bracelets, and a watch.
And her makeup was also dewy and simple. Soft curls, styled half-up, half-down, framed her face, and she sported lightly kohled eyes, shimmery lids, defined brows, blush, and a soft pink lip.
Prada In India
Shloka’s look also brings to mind a broader conversation that is brewing in Indian fashion circles: the growing exchange between international luxury houses and Indian craftsmanship. Italian label Prada has been part of that conversation recently, particularly after discussions around design inspiration and collaboration with Indian artisans, including work connected to traditional Kolhapuri footwear.
Seen in that context, Shloka’s ensemble feels timely. It presents Indian craft not as embellishment, but as an integral part of high fashion construction.
