Luck, as they say, can change at any moment. Entrepreneur Arsiyan Ismail experienced this shift in the most unexpected way, turning a modest investment of Rs 300 made more than 30 years ago into a windfall reportedly worth Rs 634 crore.
The remarkable return is linked to a digital asset created in 1993, at a time when the internet was still in its infancy and discussions around artificial intelligence had barely begun. Ismail had spent Rs 300 to register a domain name, a move that was not driven by any clear foresight into the future of technology but rather by a willingness to take a chance.
More than 30 years later, with artificial intelligence emerging as one of the most transformative industries globally, that small investment has paid off dramatically. The domain, AI.com, has become one of the most sought-after digital addresses as demand for generative AI platforms, machine learning tools and consumer-focused AI services continues to surge.
Industry observers note that short, memorable domain names tied to major technological trends have grown into premium digital assets. Much like prime real estate gains value due to its location, such domains command high prices because of their brand value and recall. With companies racing to establish a strong presence in the AI space, simple and direct web addresses are increasingly seen as strategic investments.
The domain AI.com, created by Ismail in 1993, gained immense traction during the recent boom in artificial intelligence. As interest in the sector intensified, the value of the domain soared, eventually leading to a major deal. The transaction reportedly began in 2025 and was finalised at around Rs 634 crore.
The buyer, businessman Kris Marszalek, has indicated that the domain will not be held as a personal asset but developed into a consumer-focused AI platform. Experts say the deal underlines how intellectual property, especially early digital assets, can generate extraordinary returns over time.
