Now, a viral video is proving that point once again: a man has crafted an entire shirt out of simple cotton handkerchiefs. Yes, a real, wearable shirt made entirely from vintage hankies.

Man Shows How He Makes A Full Shirt From Handkerchiefs

The video opens with the man explaining how he created his classic handkerchief shirt. He starts by saying, “I made this floral handkerchief shirt using my collection of square, vintage floral handkerchiefs. And trust me, this shirt is totally giving a vibe. Okay, how cute are these floral pieces now?”

He goes on to describe the process: he connects the square hankies and stitches them together at the edges to form long sheets of fabric. These sheets eventually become the foundation of the shirt. Once the stitching is done, he irons each seam flat and shows how neatly the pieces come together.

Next, he traces the shirt pattern onto the fabric sheets and cuts out all the panels. He mentions that this step is always exciting because he never knows which print will land where. After that, he takes two square handkerchiefs, folds them into pleats with the help of an iron, and stitches them together. These pleated pieces become the yokes of the shirt.

He also makes use of the leftover scalloped edges from the handkerchiefs. He trims them into thin strands and layers them to create a textured design for the handcuffs. “Oh my God, I’m loving the vibe of this layering and the texture it’s giving,” he says. For the sleeves, he adds a playful twist by cutting them in half, inserting small fabric slips, and creating a window-style pattern. Once that’s done, he attaches the handcuff to the sleeve.

“Created this cute vintage shirt using my collection of cotton handkerchiefs,” he wrote in his caption. It also adds that the clip is part of their DIY series focused on creative projects using everyday materials.
