Gayle King leaving ‘CBS Mornings’ reports shut down by network

Gayle King first joined ‘CBS Mornings’ in 2011

CBS is setting the record straight about Gayle King’s future at the network.

After Variety reported that the 70-year-old CBS Mornings anchor would leave her post when her contract expires in May 2026, the network issued a firm clarification.

“There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” a CBS News spokesperson said in a statement via People magazine on October 30.

“She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future,” the spokesperson added.

Variety’s report claimed King could step into a “different role” or even produce her own programming at CBS, but the network insists no such talks have taken place.

King, who joined CBS Mornings in 2011, has co-anchored through multiple lineup changes over her 14-year tenure. She currently sits alongside Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.

Rumours of her exit surfaced amid major shakeups at CBS following Skydance Media’s $8 billion acquisition of Paramount in August. The company has since announced sweeping layoffs, a leadership overhaul, and the upcoming end of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in May 2026.

For now, though, CBS says Gayle King isn’t going anywhere.
