Taylor Swift is laughing off a wild story involving her longtime friend Zoë Kravitz, and a snake that made itself a little too comfortable in her home.
During her recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Oct. 8, the Grammy-winning singer recalled the surprising moment she learned that Kravitz and her mom, Lisa Bonet, had accidentally gotten Bonet’s pet Burmese python, Orpheus, stuck inside the wall of Taylor’s house.
The pair had been staying at Swift’s Los Angeles home earlier this year amid the January wildfires.
“I just want to preface this with, we’ve all got that one friend,” Taylor began, laughing as she remembered getting a call from her head of security.
“I just remember him trying to explain this story to me. And my first question was, ‘What snake?’ I was unaware of the presence of the snake.”
Host Seth Meyers couldn’t help but note how alarming that must have been, joking, “If someone told you, ‘Oh the snake is loose,’ and you didn’t even know there was a snake…”
Taylor quickly agreed, emphasizing, “Did not know there was a snake.”
The 35-year-old pop star went on to admit that, despite the chaos, she wasn’t exactly shocked by how the whole situation unfolded. “I kind of found myself listening to this and I’m like, ‘Uh-huh, okay,’” she said with a grin.
When she later learned that Zoë and Lisa had damaged a “custom vintage cupboard” and left her bathroom floor covered in splinters while trying to rescue Orpheus, Taylor couldn’t help but see the humour, and the style, in the whole ordeal.
“This is an Annie Leibovitz shoot,” she joked.
“This is the chicest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Zoë is wearing head-to-toe The Row. I’m like, ‘This is a YSL ad, not a problem.’ It sounds incredible. I’m sad I didn’t see it.”
Still, Swift decided to have a little fun with her friend.
“I know her well enough to know, ‘She’s not gonna tell me about this until it’s fixed,’” she explained.
“I know her so well. I just kept a little countdown on my phone, like just counting the days. I think it was like three weeks — exactly the amount of time it took to fix the damaged cupboard.”
When Kravitz eventually confessed what had happened, Taylor couldn’t stop laughing.
“She’s like, ‘I told them not to tell you!’” the singer recalled. “And I told her, ‘Dude, I’ve been laughing about this for three weeks.’”
Despite the unexpected home renovation, it’s clear nothing, not even a runaway python, can rattle the friendship between Taylor Swift and Zoë Kravitz.
