AI Gets Smarter: Windows Copilot Can Create Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Files From Chat

According to The Verge ,Microsoft has upgraded its Copilot app for Windows, giving the AI assistant the ability to create Office documents directly from chat and link to Gmail and Outlook accounts.

The new feature, rolling out first to Windows Insiders before reaching all Windows 11 users, allows Copilot to generate Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files without leaving the chat interface.

“With just a prompt, you can instantly turn ideas, notes, and data into shareable and editable documents with no extra steps or tools required,” Microsoft’s Copilot team said. For longer responses—over 600 characters—users will now see an export button to send text straight to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF.

In another major update, users can connect their Outlook or Gmail accounts so Copilot can fetch relevant content from their inboxes. For instance, you can ask it to find all invoices from a company or pull up a contact’s email address.

The integration is opt-in and managed through the app’s connectors section, where users can link services such as OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts. The setup mirrors integrations OpenAI introduced in ChatGPT earlier this year.

The update comes as Microsoft prepares to launch a redesigned OneDrive app next year, featuring a gallery view, AI-powered slideshows, and new editing tools — further expanding the company’s AI push across its ecosystem.
