PESHAWAR – Voting for by-elections in local government positions is underway across 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Polling process started at 8am and will continue until 5pm without interruption in these elections include Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kolai Pals, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Lower Dir, and Bajaur, as confirmed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
With 345,604 registered voters, ECP established 260 polling stations across the northwestern region. Security measures include the installation of cameras at polling stations deemed highly sensitive.
The by-elections are taking place for 54 vacant seats in 53 village and neighborhood councils. In Peshawar, 13 candidates are contesting for positions in five village councils.
To ensure a smooth electoral process, the ECP has deployed over 6,500 personnel province-wide, including more than 800 security officials in Peshawar.
