Govt fails to present 26th constitutional amendment in Senate session again

ISLAMABAD – The government was once again unable to present the 26th constitutional amendment for approval in today’s Senate session.

Details reveal that a Senate session, chaired by Yousuf Raza Gilani, took place where the 26th constitutional amendment was supposed to be presented for approval by the government.

During the session, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla presented a resolution to defer the question hour, which was approved. Prayers were also offered for the martyrs of the Karsaz incident.

At one point, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani suggested postponing the session for an hour, which Senator Irfan Siddiqui supported. Gilani explained that a meeting and a cabinet session were underway and, if deemed appropriate, the Senate session could be delayed for an hour.

Although the request was made to postpone the session for an hour, it continued as scheduled.

PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui, speaking in the House, stated that the proposed constitutional amendment does not contain anything against fundamental rights, and they wish to pass it with consensus.

He added that they have no objections to bringing a resolution against the martyrdom of Hamas leader.

PML-N Senator Talal Chaudhry, speaking about the Supreme Court’s second clarification, said that the court’s explanation has made its decision even more controversial, as it seems to be favoring a particular party. He added that such decisions are causing judges themselves to become controversial.
