Discord will now remove all files after 24 hours of being posted. The company told Bleeping Computer that with this move, the platform can prevent malware on the platform and get more ability to “restrict access to flagged content.”
Discord won’t be changing users’ experience sharing files on the internet as links will be refreshed automatically. The company intends to share more “in coming weeks” with developers, who “may see minimal impact.”
Cybersecurity firm, Trellix, has recently reported around 10,000 malware samples distributed online which were being stored on Discord’s content delivery network (CDN). Hackers were using the platform’s web hooks to pull data from victims’ computers and drop it into Discord channels run by the attackers.
