The Islamabad High Court has intervened to prevent the trial court from issuing a final ruling in the high-profile £190 million case involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
The court, led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, heard petitions filed by Khan and Bushra Bibi challenging their conviction. The petitions seek both acquittal and a halt to further proceedings in the trial court.
In their petition, Khan and Bushra Bibi argued that the trial court should be barred from advancing the trial while their appeal remains under consideration in the High Court.
The Islamabad High Court has directed the trial court to proceed with the trial but has prohibited it from delivering a final judgment. Additionally, the court has instructed the lawyers representing Khan and Bushra Bibi to submit relevant documents and has issued notices on their acquittal requests. The case has been adjourned until September 26.
Previously, the Accountability Court had rejected the acquittal pleas of Khan and Bushra Bibi, prompting their appeal to the Islamabad High Court.
The case, which revolves around allegations of financial misconduct involving £190 million, has garnered significant attention and remains a focal point in Pakistan’s political and legal arenas.
