The Ministry of Finance on Wednesday in its fortnightly review of prices of the petroleum products has kept the tariffs of petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) unchanged.

This means that the price of petrol will remain unchanged at Rs283.38 per liter, and high-speed diesel will continue to be priced at Rs303.18 per liter.

However, kerosene oil will experience a reduction of Rs3.82 per liter, bringing the price down from Rs214.85 to Rs211.03 per liter. Likewise, the cost of light diesel oil will decrease by Rs3.40 per liter, with the new rate set at Rs189.46 per liter, down from the previous Rs192.86 per liter.

Petrol is mainly used in motorbikes and cars and is an alternative to compressed natural gas (CNG), especially in Punjab, where locally produced gas is not available at CNG filling stations.

Diesel is widely used in transport and agriculture sectors, and therefore, any increase in its price causes a massive inflationary impact.

Kerosene oil is used for cooking purposes in remote areas, especially in the northern parts of the country where the LPG is not available for cooking. Pakistan Army is also its key user in these areas.
