At least 50 people on Monday were injured after a “technical problem” had caused a “strong movement” aboard the LATAM Airlines international flight from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia.

According to FlightAware, LATAM Airlines flight LA800, which typically stops in Auckland on its way to Santiago, Chile, landed at Auckland airport on Monday afternoon as scheduled.

The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, suffered a “technical problem” that affected some passengers and cabin crew, a spokesperson for the South American airline told the NZ Herald.

“They received immediate assistance and were evaluated or treated by medical staff at the airport as needed,” he added.

According to Reuters, a spokesperson revealed that the Hato Hone St John ambulance treated roughly 50 people at the airport.

Among the injured, one patient was in a serious condition while the rest had suffered mild to moderate injuries, they added.

A passenger told the NZ Herald she experienced a “quick little drop” during the flight.

Meanwhile, Boeing and Latam have not commented on the incident yet nor have they revealed the cause and nature of the incident.
