5 Signs Of Hormonal Imbalance After Pregnancy

Many women experience severe depression after giving birth.

For some women, it may take a few months to years for the menstrual cycle to return to normal.

The post-pregnancy period can be a very difficult experience for most women. Hormones are the main reason for this. The massive changes in estrogen and progesterone hormones after giving birth cause significant changes in a woman’s physical and mental well-being. So it is necessary to understand these changes and take some steps accordingly. As these consequences not only affect the mother’s health but the new born baby also gets equally affected. Some symptoms of hormonal imbalance after pregnancy are as follows:

1. Excessive Irritability: Some women feel irritable and angry for no reason after giving birth. It is caused by a drop in progesterone levels after childbirth. Progesterone is an important hormone that calms the brain during pregnancy. After the pregnancy period, it begins to decrease significantly, and changes in the mood of the woman occur. Once your menstrual cycle starts running normally, the body starts producing progesterone again. After that, your mood also becomes normal.

2. Symptoms of depression: According to various reports, 25 percent of women experience severe depression after giving birth. Most women experience mild to severe mood swings during the first week after giving birth. It is caused by a drop in hormone levels of estradiol and serotonin after childbirth to support breastfeeding.

3. Chronic Fatigue: For long days after giving birth, women find themselves unable to return to their normal lives with low energy. They always have a feeling of exhaustion. Due to this, they find it difficult to do regular work. This will adversely affect their mood.

4. Unexpected weight gain or loss: Returning to a healthy weight after childbirth is normal. Some women may experience weight gain or loss due to stress and fatigue or a thyroid hormone imbalance.

5. Irregular Menstruation: For some women, it may take a few months to years for the menstrual cycle to return to normal. This is especially true for breastfeeding mothers. If the period does not return or if it is irregular, one should take it as a sign of hormonal imbalance. So one should consult a doctor immediately and take appropriate action.
