Power theft crackdown: Over Rs7 bn recovered from defaulters – SUCH TV



In the ongoing massive crackdown on electricity theft across the country, more than Rs7 billion have been recovered so far. The Power Division has also disclosed details of the cases registered in various distribution companies (Discos).

According to the Power Division, around Rs7.9 billion have been recovered from electricity thieves in 17 days. During the operations across the country, 2001 electricity thieves were arrested and over 15,000 FIRs were registered.

LESCO has so far recovered more than Rs2.15 billion from electricity thieves and arrested 471 suspects. During operations in the MEPCO region, more than Rs1.86 billion were recovered and 698 people arrested.

In the PESCO region, 372 power thieves were arrested, 294 in FESCO, 122 in QESCO, 43 in GEPCO and eight electricity thieves were arrested in the TESCO region.

Meanwhile, the government is preparing to give another shock to the public with huge electricity bills by increasing power tariff once again.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to increase the price of electricity by Rs 3.28 per unit as part of quarterly adjustment.

The regulatory authority sent the decision to increase the quarterly adjustment to the federal government, the increase in electricity price will be applied after the approval of the federal government.

In case of increase on the request sent by Nepra, there will be an additional burden of Rs159 billion on the electricity consumers.
