Mastung’s grim toll reaches 53 as CTD registers bombing case | The Express Tribune

The Balochistan Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday registered a case against unknown attackers for the Mastung bombing as the tragedy’s death toll reached 53..

The First Information Report (FIR) for the blast during an Eid Miladun Nabi procession includes provisions of murder, attempted murder, terrorism and the explosives act, reported Express News.

The province has also declared a three-day mourning period for the martyrs of the attack.

A spokesperson from the Civil Hospital Quetta confirmed that seven severely injured individuals are being cared for in the intensive care ward of the hospital while 17 injured are undergoing treatment at Ghousbakhsh Memorial Hospital, and 25 victims have been discharged so far.

Hangu suicide blast case

Similarly, police in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa also registered a case regarding the suicide blast in Hangu’s police lines against unknown terrorists, based on the complaint filed by SHO Doaba. The charges include provisions related to terrorism, murder, and attempted murder.

The FIR stated that two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on the policemen and the police station gate as soon as they arrived. The on-duty officers returned fire and a police official kill one of the attackers.

It added that one of the attackers detonated his suicide vest after gaining entry. Police have also recovered body parts of the bomber, which have been sent for DNA testing.

Twin blasts in Mastung and Hangu claimed at least 57 lives on Friday. In Balochistan’s Mastung, a suicide bomber targeted a religious procession and killed 53 people including a senior police official. 

In Hangu, at least five people, including a policeman, were killed and 12 others were injured when a suicide bomber exploded inside a mosque.

The mosque situated inside the Doaba Police Lines, was targeted by two suicide attackers, said DPO Nisar Ahmed. “The first one was killed at the gate of the police lines while trying to gain entry and the second attacker managed to enter the mosque and blew himself up inside.”
