By India Today Sports Desk: 20-year-old Yash Dhull, on Tuesday, April 11 made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut. The youngster was picked to play for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their match against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Dhull replaced Khaleel Ahmed, who missed the game due to an injury. Apart from Dhull, the Capitals also included Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman in the playing XI in place of Rilee Rossouw. The Capitals have lost all three of their matches thus far in the tournament.
Back in 2022, Yash Dhull rose to prominence after leading India to glory in the U19 World Cup in the West Indies. In the same year, the Capitals picked him for their squad at his base price of INR 20 lakhs, but he didn’t get a chance.
Dhull has been impressive in India’s domestic cricket while playing for Delhi. In 15 first-class matches, the right-handed batter has notched 1145 runs at an average of 49.78 and a strike-rate of 70.15 with four half-centuries and four centuries to show for his efforts.
Recently, he played for the Rest of India in their Irany Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh in Gwalior. He impressed by scoring 55 runs in the first innings, although he failed to open his account in the second.
Back in February 2022, Dhull scored 113 runs on his Ranji trophy debut and gave an account of his stupendous skills with the bat in hand. Dhull has also played seven List A and eight T20 matches. It remains to be seen if he can perform well for DC in the IPL.
