Google is winding down its Jamboard app | The Express Tribune

Google has decided to shut down its whiteboard app, Jamboard in late 2024. The company made the announcement in a Workspace post and said it will switch to working more closely with third-party partners.

The home-grown whiteboarding solution enabled users to collaborate in real-time, reflecting on the Jamboard hardware once any edits were made. In order to continue providing similar tools to its clients, Google intends to integrate FigJam, Lucidspark, and Miri in its Workplace app. The company also promised to provide a “retention and migration path” so that users don’t lose any collaborative work they’ve created within an organization

According to Google, it received feedback from customers who said they preferred to work with third-party apps because of the advanced features offered. The feedback allowed the company to “leverage [its] partner ecosystem for whiteboarding in Workspace and focus [its] efforts on core content collaboration across Docs, Sheets, and Slides.”

Google is also winding down its 4K digital whiteboarding device, Jamboard, which costs $5000. The device will stop receiving updates after September 30, 2024.
